Item Details

309L stainless steel TIG (GTAW) welding alloy has similar usage as 309, but the 0.03% maximum carbon content, reduces the possibility of carbide precipitation that can cause weld corrosion, to increase resistance to intergranular corrosion. Used for welding similar alloys in wrought or cast form. Occasionally used for welding 18-8 base metals when severe corrosion conditions exist, and, at times, welding dissimilar steels. Conforms to AWS A5.9. Packaged for portable welding machines.

Features

  • Stainless steel 309L TIG welding rod welds type 304 and similar base metals in wrought or cast form where severe conditions may exist
  • Sometimes welds dissimilar steels
  • Lower carbon content (0.03% maximum) resists carbide precipitation that can cause weld corrosion
  • 87,000 psi tensile strength (as welded)
  • 58,000 psi yield strength (as welded)
  • 40% elongation (as welded) 60% reduction of area (as welded)
