Item Details

AlcoTec ALMIGWeld® Aluminum MIG Welding Wire of 1/16" Dia is made of 5556 alloy that has magnesium, manganese, chromium and titanium as the principle alloying elements. Non-heat treatable wire with 1055 to 1175 deg F melting range develops the highest as-welded strengths in fillet welds. Wire is used in a wide variety of applications as it provides great blend of corrosion resistance, strength, toughness, workability and weldability. It obtains white color when anodized and is associated with ER5556 class of wire. Wire is susceptible to stress corrosion cracking when the weld pool chemistry is greater than 3% Mg or exposed to prolonged temperatures above 150 deg F. Welding filler wire with .096 lb/cu.in comes in a wire basket of 20 lb. It meets ANSI/AWS A5.10 standards.

Features

  • Non-Heat treatable
  • Principle alloying elements: Magnesium, manganese, chromium, titanium
  • The alloy is typically utilized in marine and structural applications where high strengths, high fracture toughness for impact resistance, and exposure to corrosive elements are important
  • The 5XXX series of alloys offer an excellent combination of corrosion resistance, strength, toughness, workability, and weldability
  • The alloy is not recommended for elevated temperature applications due to its susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking
  • As a result, they are used in a wide variety of applications

Applications

  • Welding Filler Wire
  • Containers
